When I pray things like this, it scares me....

Well yes, please do... but in a way that's not too painful for me. Only... wait... when I put parameters on it, then I'm putting God in a box. Scratch that. Even though it's scary, and it might be difficult for me to go through, I know that it will be worth it. So yes, Lord, please remind me of my soul's great poverty.

Don't ever let me not need You.

I have learned that God's way is always the better way. That whatever He has planned for me, always turns out better than what I think I want or need. So even when the road to get somewhere sucks, I know that God wants what's best for me, and that He will get me there. A lot of times, it is on those rocky roads to get somewhere worth going that I remember how much I need Him.

�

So yes, Lord, please don't ever let me not need You. Even when that means that the reminders sometimes come through my struggles. Use my low-points, my insecurities, and my failures to show me that I am not my own Savior, You are. That I need You.

Amen.

Whisper Words Of Wisdom

This song played while I was driving home from work this morning. I'm not sure what was different about today, but I was almost paralyzed by the words. I can't even count the number of times I've heard this song, and I've been listening to it pretty often recently because I love the live version that Kris Allen did on American Idol this year. But something was different today.

I didn't really know why I was so fixated on it all day long, but it was a calming message, so I was okay with that. It wasn't until tonight that I truly felt the significance of the words.

Sometimes it's hard to remember where God is when things go wrong or when we're struggling with something. But just like the lyrics in this song, there is always a light shining on us. No matter how cloudy or dark the night is, He's shining today and He'll be shining still tomorrow.

Once I realized tonight that I needed this song, I sang it over and over in my head. It made me think of one thing...

�Be still, and know that I am God!"

-Psalm 46:10a

The chorus of the song says, "Whisper words of wisdom, let it be." Today, the song and the verse were the whispered words of wisdom that I needed to hear. And there isn't a doubt in my mind as to where they came from. So today, I encourage you to quiet your heart and listen to the whispers of God in your life.

Soli Deo Gloria... To God alone the glory.

God's Creations

I found that quote on a random notepad in my office yesterday. Our theme at VBS�yesterday was also "God's Creation." It was my reminder to slow down and open my eyes.

When I look around me, I see that heaven is all around me; God is all around me. And in seeing His creation, I see His unbelievable love for me. If you really think about it, it's pretty incredible.

"Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.�If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers�most of which are never even seen�don't you think he'll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?"

- Matthew 6:28-30

How often do we walk past the creation that's all around us without giving it a second thought? God didn't just make us a functioning world, He made an absolutely gorgeous one.

In looking around us and marveling at the creativeness of God, should we not see that same beauty in ourselves? Because even though He has made some spectacularly beautiful things... flowers, and sunsets, oceans and butterflies... He also made us.

If He took the time to put stripes on zebras, and give peacocks their intricate feathers, and put bright, colorful spots on butterflies, and make robin's eggs blue, then surely He took even more time with us. Surely we are His most precious creations.

Look around you today. Look and see the artistry of God. And then look in the mirror and look at his most beautiful creation... YOU!
