"But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid.
I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people..."
- Luke 2:10

The Bible tells us to "fear not" something like 365 times. This is another reminder that we have nothing to be afraid of. The angels are telling the shepherds, out in a field watching their sheep, not to be afraid. Fear not, we are bringing you Good News.

What are you afraid of? And what is your fear holding you back from? We were talking about having a fear of spiders at church tonight. And snakes. We said that the second Harry Potter movie might not be a good choice if you have either of those fears. I also have a 9th grader at church who is petrified of clowns. Then there are worse things...

I had a conversation at work today about how much cancer sucks. How unfair it is when someone in their forties, with young kids, is dying of cancer. Someone who remained positive throughout it all, couldn't kick cancer's butt. I hate cancer.

So again... What are you afraid of?

"So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
- Isaiah 41:10

That's the verse that comes up first when you search for "fear not" on BibleGateway.com. It really sums it up. We have nothing to fear because God is with us. We don't need to be afraid because He will strengthen and help us. He is with us.

It makes me think of the Chris Tomlin song...

Our God is greater, our God is stronger
God you are higher than any other
Our God is Healer, Awesome in Power
Our God! Our God!

And if our God is for us, then who could ever stop us
And if our God is with us, then what could stand against
Do NOT be afraid. God is with you.

"What, then, shall we say in response to these things?
If God is for us, who can be against us?"
- Romans 8:31
