postheadericon A Small Paper Bird

“What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin?
But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it.
And the very hairs on your head are all numbered.
So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.”
- Matthew 10:29-31

I was given a little origami bird a few months back with this verse attached to it. It has become a verse that I choose to recite to myself every day. I don't think that we are always able to remember how much God loves us and how much we matter in this world. I think we can all use the little reminders.

The good news is that that is exactly how God works. God is definitely in the big things. That's usually where it's easiest to see Him. But God is also in the small things. And I think that finding Him there can change the world...because I know that it can change each one of us.

We live in a society that tries to judge our worth by how much money we make, how skinny and perfect looking we are, how good our grades are, where we went to college or grad school, if we're married and have cute kids, and what kind of job we have. It is so easy to fall into the trap of letting our worth be defined by what society thinks of us. But that is so far from the truth.

Jesus makes it pretty clear... We are valuable to God. We matter to God. We are worth something to God. God knows every thing about us; every detail of our lives. And we mean something to Him. So much more than what other people may want us to believe. Even when others judge us, we don't have to look any farther than a simple sparrow to remember our true worth.

“Look at the birds.
They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns,
for your heavenly Father feeds them.
And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?”
- Matthew 6:26

God takes care of the birds, so how much more does He take care of us? Not a single bird falls without Him knowing. He takes care of the birds. And He has numbered each hair on our heads. God will take care of us, because we're worth it...

You're always worth it.
